On April 3, Ramsey County witnessed the celebration of community leaders devoted to youth empowerment as the Workforce Innovation Board named Donnell Bratton and Stephany Aguirre Lopez the winners of its Youth Workforce Champion Awards for 2025. Both Bratton and Lopez have been recognized for their significant impact on the lives of young people between the ages of 14 and 24, aiding in their educational and career progression within this Minnesota community.
Catrice O'Neal, Director of Ramsey County Workforce Solutions, praised the honorees for their commitment: "Donnell and Stephany’s dedication to guiding young people toward success is truly inspiring," she remarked, highlighting the alignment of their work with the organization's mission. Donnell Bratton, a pastor at the Frogtown Rondo Black Church Alliance, received the Legacy Award, a testament to his long-standing efforts and leadership that has fostered access to education and employment for local youth. In contrast, Stephany Aguirre Lopez was lauded with the Rising Star Award for her role as a Youth and Community Project Manager at Sprockets, where she has been instrumental in bridging after-school activities with workforce training and promoting youth advocacy.
Acknowledging the impact of these two individuals, Aalayha Traub, Chair of the WIB’s Youth Committee, said in a statement obtained by Ramsey County: "Donnell and Stephany are true champions for our youth. heir guidance and support have helped countless young people discover new opportunities and build confidence in their futures." Their efforts exemplify a grass-roots approach to community development, where the emphasis on youth participation and leadership can create lasting change.
The Youth Workforce Champion Awards not only shine a light on individuals making a difference but also serve as a reminder of the importance of youth-focused initiatives in shaping the workforce of tomorrow. The awarded Bratton and Lopez have carved paths for the young to follow, ensuring that the voice of the youth remains a guiding force in the development of programs aimed at their growth. Lopez's work, in particular, ensures that these programs don't just exist but are also shaped by the ones they're meant to serve.
