A man has been arrested following a shooting in Riverview that left a woman in critical condition. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office reported that on April 5, 2025, they responded to a call at approximately 1:22 a.m., where they found a woman with a gunshot wound to her lower back. The shooting took place at a residence on the 11800 block of Dumaine Valley Road.
The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Leroyce Durham, was present at the scene and initially directed the deputies to the victim, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. The investigation led detectives to determine that Durham had shot the woman following an altercation earlier that evening. Durham, was arrested without incident and is now facing charges that include aggravated battery great bodily harm and deadly weapon, attempted murder in the second degree firearm - great bodily harm, and felon in possession of a firearm.
In the wake of the shooting, Sheriff Chad Chronister issued a statement. "This tragic incident highlights just how quickly lives can be changed by violence," he said. "No one should ever fear for their life in their own home. I commend our deputies and detectives for acting quickly to arrest the suspect and begin the process of seeking justice for the victim." These comments underscore the swift action taken by law enforcement in response to the violent event, as per Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
The woman whom Durham allegedly shot, remains hospitalized and is reportedly in critical condition. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing.
