The shooting took place at a residence on the 11800 block of Dumaine Valley Road.

The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Leroyce Durham, was present at the scene and initially directed the deputies to the victim, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. The investigation led detectives to determine that Durham had shot the woman following an altercation earlier that evening. Durham, was arrested without incident and is now facing charges that include aggravated battery great bodily harm and deadly weapon, attempted murder in the second degree firearm - great bodily harm, and felon in possession of a firearm.

In the wake of the shooting, Sheriff Chad Chronister issued a statement. "This tragic incident highlights just how quickly lives can be changed by violence," he said. "No one should ever fear for their life in their own home. I commend our deputies and detectives for acting quickly to arrest the suspect and begin the process of seeking justice for the victim."
