A Rock Hill middle school teacher and track coach is facing charges after authorities say he was involved in the sexual exploitation of minors. Doug MacAlpine, who taught at Castle Heights Middle School and coached track at Rock Hill High School, has been arrested and charged with six counts of sexual exploitation of a minor in the second degree; his bond is set at $25,000, WCNC reports.
According to the York County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Trent Faris, while MacAlpine has been associated with both the middle and high school, the charges do not involve any students from the Rock Hill district, Faris noted and the school district's statement also confirmed this detail, according to The Herald. MacAlpine is currently on administrative leave and it has been allegedly discovered he uploaded video files online, some depicting children as young as age 9.
The actions of MacAlpine, now leading to his arrest contrast sharply with the image previously held by the school community, just months earlier in November 2024, MacAlpine had been recognized by Rock Hill Schools for his achievements as an educator, highlighted by Lawyer Monthly.
As the case unfolds the precise contents of the allegedly uploaded videos and the extent of the exploitation remain part of an ongoing investigation.
