A series of burglaries in Bethesda led Montgomery County Department of Police detectives, aided by tips from vigilant citizens, to arrest a local man. Gabriel Oscar Shandler, a 34-year-old Rockville resident, is now facing charges for his alleged involvement in incidents dating back to April of last year.
The case picked up pace swiftly after the police department released a photo and details of the suspect to the public. According to a statement from the Montgomery County Department of Police, it took only an hour for Crime Solvers to begin to receive what would amount to multiple decisive tips. "Within one hour of the release, Crime Solvers received three separate tips identifying Shandler as the suspect," the department announced.
Shandler's supposed spree began with a stolen bottle of liquor from a County Liquor Store on Hampden Lane on April 17, 2024. Later, on October 6, he allegedly returned to the scene, this time employing a rock to forcefully gain entry and burglarize the establishment. His final reported attempt on October 27 was unsuccessful after he failed to break through the glass door.
These incremental acts of theft culminated in Shandler's arrest on April 3. Following his arrest, he was temporarily released after posting a $10,000 secured bond. "On March 5, 2025, a detective submitted a warrant charging Shandler with second-degree burglary, attempted second-degree burglary, and two counts of theft less than $100," according to details released by the Montgomery County Department of Police.
Crime Solvers, the nonprofit board praised for their pivotal role in Shandler's apprehension, remains committed to encouraging community engagement in maintaining public safety. They offer anonymity and potential rewards for tips leading to arrests or indictments.
