Gunfire echoed through the streets of East Hills in Pittsburgh late Thursday afternoon. Two vehicles were engaged in a rolling shootout, according to official reports. Pittsburgh Police from Zone 5 rushed to the 1700 block of Crestline Street around 5:15 p.m. following ShotSpotter alerts that indicated at least eight rounds were fired during the incident, as detailed on the city's official website.
The chaos continued when a white sedan, hit by a bullet, crashed into a utility pole on Coal Street near Wilkinsburg. The car caught fire, but Pittsburgh Fire put it out quickly. The driver, a man shot in the hip, and a woman passenger with medical issues were taken to the hospital by EMS, as articulated on Pittsburgh's Public Safety Blotter.
Meanwhile, the other car sped away, last seen turning onto Grand Avenue. Police are still trying to figure out what happened, with little to go on besides bullet marks on the street. Luckily, no homes or parked cars were hit, which spared the neighborhood from more damage.
