The Round Rock Public Library is offering a new wellness series this spring centered on the foundational yet often overlooked practice of conscious breathing, according to a recent announcement. Aptly named the "Well! Well! Well! series: Breathing Lab," attendees are invited to explore the "magical power of breath work" over three sessions designed to enhance their health and overall well-being. The workshops will take place on consecutive Sundays, starting May 4th through May 18th, from 4:00 to 5:15 p.m. in the library's meeting rooms.

Participants in the series will engage in breath observation to understand their breathing patterns then they will learn methods to improve the depth and efficiency of their breath with the expected outcome being a stronger mind-body connection, and perhaps a toolset to better handle stress, anxiety, muscle tension, and even to perform better in activities demanding heightened breath control. Dr. Xia Zeng, a faculty member at the Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine College-Berkeley's Austin branch, will be leading the sessions; Dr. Zeng is known for her expertise in chronic pain and a range of other medical conditions, as well as in practices like Qigong and Tai Chi.

While the library system traditionally functions as a gateway to intellectual exploration through books and digital media, offerings like the Breathing Lab root the Round Rock Public Library even deeper into the community's fabric as a place for holistic personal development. Spanning three weeks, each lab session builds upon the last, with the first focusing on awareness, the second on deepening the breath, and the third on integrating breathing techniques into daily activities and movements. One does not have to possess a library card to participate — attendance is open to all who are interested in converging with fellow breath-seekers in a collective journey toward better living through controlled respiration.

With her extensive background, Dr. Zeng brings to the program a deep understanding of the physiological and psychological impacts of breathing, her work with patients at Cedar Park Regional Medical Center and ZENg Life Cultivation Center showcases a dedication to enhancing life quality not only through medical intervention but also through teaching the art of mindful movement and breath. By facilitating these sessions, she aims to help others cultivate the same results she's seen in her practice, according to a statement from the Round Rock Public Library. The series is another link in the chain connecting the library with the pulse of its public, ensuring it remains a vital organ in the body of the community, now with a focus on the rhythm of the breath.
