In a display of both mourning and call to action, the family of Simon Cuevas, a 14-year-old boy fatally shot last week, released balloons in his memory at South Elmendorf and Merida Street, FOX San Antonio reports.
Amidst the grief, an emotional gathering saw Cuevas' family and friends assembling at the site of the attack, questions circling with anguished voices about why justice continues to elude and how long they must wait for it to take its course where police affirmed no arrests have yet been made, their efforts ongoing in identifying the assailants shown on video footage tackling and shooting the teen, according to News 4 San Antonio.
"For them to pay for what they did. They need to be held accountable. And if the parents are keeping their kids from turning themselves in, they should be held accountable as well. Because they wouldn't want to be in this situation. They would want them to be found as well," Cuevas' mother expressed her grief and demand for justice to FOX San Antonio, a sentiment shared by many in attendance hoping this would spur further action from both community members and law enforcement alike.
