San Antonio residents can take advantage of a free landfill day this Saturday, organized by the City of San Antonio Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD). The event will allow residents to dispose of large household items such as furniture, appliances, and up to six passenger vehicle tires, according to the city's press release.
The event provides an opportunity for residents to dispose of large items at no cost. To participate, individuals need to bring a valid photo ID and their most recent CPS Energy utility bill showing payment of the City's environmental fee. Items can be dropped off at the Republic Services Landfill at 7000 IH 10 E or the Waste Management Landfill at 8611 Covel Road between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. A tarp is required to cover the load, and while not mandatory, wearing a safety vest is recommended for safety.
There are certain restrictions to be aware of: materials such as roofing, sheetrock, and construction debris will not be accepted, nor will industrial or commercial waste. A detailed list of accepted and non-accepted items can be found in the press release for reference.
The city also notes that four bulky item drop-off centers are available year-round, Tuesday through Saturday, for residents who may not be able to participate in this Saturday's event. More information about these centers can be found at SARecycles.org.
