The National Weather Service San Diego is reporting a weekend forecast of cool weather with a deep marine layer across the southwestern California region, including patches of drizzle possible along the coast, and a chance of showers stretching from tonight into Saturday evening; they've also predicted a 10% possibility of thunderstorms for areas westward of the mountains on Saturday afternoon, as stated in their latest Area Forecast Discussion.
Gusty southwest to west winds will emerge this afternoon over the mountains and deserts, continuing through Saturday evening with expected gusts of 45 to 55 mph in favored desert slopes and below mountain passes, per the National Weather Service San Diego; the marine layer's low clouds enveloping coastal slopes this morning are expected to enable drizzle or light showers later today, while high temperatures linger around 5-15 degrees below normal, the forecast discussion details an upper level low moving south today and traversing East across Southern California tomorrow, enhancing precipitation chances and snowfall in certain zones.
According to a detailed analysis by the National Weather Service San Diego, inland valleys can expect highs ranging from 56 to 64 degrees, while mountain regions between 4000 ft and 7000 ft may experience cooler temperatures, from 46 to 61 degrees; furthermore, the high desert is projected to see warmer conditions with temperatures hitting between 62 and 75 degrees, and the low desert might experience even milder weather ranging between 77 to 83 degrees.
Looking forward into next week, there will be a gradual warming trend with temperatures near to slightly above normal after enduring a weekend where residents will have dug out their jackets; high temperatures inland will start the week at approximately 10-20 degrees below normal on Sunday, inching closer to 3-5 degrees below normal by Monday, then leaping more agreeable warmth, a couple degrees above normal, by Tuesday, as an upper ridge attempts to establish itself in the area. However, this tranquility might be short-lived as another weak wave is forecasted to sweep across the Western US around Wednesday and Thursday, which could again moderate temperatures. Then, yet another ridge is trying to build in on Friday for minor warming.
