San Diego residents can look forward to a warmer weekend, with temperatures gradually rising through Sunday. Coastal and valley areas are expected to experience warmth that pushes 4 to 8 degrees above average. There are not all clear skies; however, there's a slight chance of showers this afternoon, particularly in the San Diego County mountains. Beyond that, the forecast suggests dry conditions heading into the next week, according to the National Weather Service San Diego.
Temperature-wise, Friday near the coast is set to hover between 61 to 66 degrees, with the inland valleys scheduled to reach a warmer 62 to 73 degrees. Though experiencing slower warming, the mountains will see highs between 48 and 57 degrees. As the weekend progresses, these numbers are expected to climb even further, with coastal areas reaching up to 72 degrees by Saturday and potentially hitting 78 degrees by Sunday. Meanwhile, the high desert areas are starting to feel the heat as they prepare to jump from 63 to 77 degrees over the next few days.
Moving into the beginning of next week, a low-pressure system is predicted to induce a mild cooling effect on Monday and Tuesday, especially along the coast and in valley areas, with temperatures dropping a few degrees. Nonetheless, according to the forecast from National Weather Service San Diego, "warming will resume for the coast and valleys for Wednesday and Thursday and continue for the mountains and deserts." By Thursday, the mercury is expected to shoot up, reaching 12 to 18 degrees above average in the mountainous and high desert regions, with the lower deserts potentially hitting the 100-degree mark.
For those who might hope to escape the heat by heading out onto the water, the marine forecast promises calm conditions through Tuesday, with no hazardous marine weather anticipated. While the NWS hasn't seen fit to call upon Skywarn activation, they encourage weather spotters to stay vigilant and report any significant deviations. Inland Empire residents, with an 80 percent chance of seeing temperatures exceed 90 degrees on Thursday, should prepare for a particularly toasty end to their week. Those in the Palm Springs and Thermal areas might want to brace themselves for a 50 percent chance of reaching that sizzling 100-degree threshold.
