San José police have taken a 36-year-old local resident into custody following a pair of road rage incidents, including one in which a firearm was brandished. Steven Robles was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a stolen firearm, among others.

The first reported occurrence took place on February 27 near N. Bascom Avenue at W. San Carlos Street, where Robles is accused of nearly colliding with another vehicle, prompting its driver to honk. Robles then is alleged to have driven dangerously close to the victim's car, ultimately forcing them against oncoming traffic, and subsequently pointed a gun at the victim. In a separate incident on March 29 on N. 1st Street at E. Brokaw Road, Robles is reported to have intentionally backed into, and then struck head-on, another victim's vehicle, according to a statement from the San José Police Department.

Following these incidents, SJPD's Assaults Unit Detectives engaged in an extensive investigation, which led to the identification of Robles as the suspect for both assaults. They successfully obtained an arrest warrant for Robles and a search warrant for his San José residence.

With the assistance of the Covert Response Unit, detectives apprehended Robles on Tuesday. A subsequent search of his home revealed possession of several firearms, including one stolen firearm, along with large capacity magazines and body armor. Robles was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail facing various charges, including the brandishing of a firearm from a vehicle, as detailed on the SJPD news release.

The police are still gathering information on these cases and encourage anyone with knowledge to contact Detective MacInnes of the San José Police Department Assaults Unit. The investigation remains open, and community members can contact Detective MacInnes either through email at [email protected] or by calling 408-277-4161.
