San Jose's streets witnessed the diligent efforts of its police force yesterday when a routine stop became an arrest that may have thwarted potential criminal activity. A social media post from the San Jose Police Department recounted the incident around 1 PM at the intersection of N. Market St. and W. Santa Clara St., as Central Division foot patrol officers observed a vehicle committing a code violation.
Turning their attention to the offenders, the officers found that the driver, without a license, was not the rightful owner of the car, reported the San Jose Police Department via its social media. Patrolling the streets, the passenger, previously known to the law for firearm offenses, landed under the microscope for being on searchable probation. This led the officers to search the vehicle, which was a part of the passenger's probation conditions.
The search uncovered a handgun along with roughly 21 grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine, besides other narcotics. This discovery led to the driver being booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on multiple firearm-related charges. The passenger also faced the consequences, was considered legally unfit to be near firearms, taken into custody, and booked on several counts, including firearm violations, drug possession, resisting arrest, and probation violation.
