During a routine traffic stop last night, Santa Rosa Police made a significant discovery: a loaded firearm tucked beneath the passenger seat of a vehicle. The stop was initiated around 8:10 p.m., near Burbank Avenue, after an officer noticed the vehicle had an equipment violation. Santa Rosa Police detailed the incident in a social media post, recounting how an initial observation of illegal substances inside the car led to a vehicle search and the detection of a 9mm Smith and Wesson pistol.
The search revealed that the handgun was equipped with fifteen rounds in its magazine and lacked registration with the Department of Justice. The police report stated that the driver, identified as Aaron Washington, a 30-year-old resident of Stockton, and Damoreay McCrary, a 29-year-old from San Jose, were both arrested on multiple charges. These charges included possession of a firearm in public, carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle, and possession of a firearm and live ammunition by a prohibited person due to prior felony convictions.
Additionally, authorities found the driver in possession of counterfeit pressed pills, suspected to be controlled substances. This led to further accusations of possession of a controlled substance while armed with a firearm and possession of a controlled substance. The Santa Rosa Police Department, committed to ensuring city safety, booked both individuals into jail and documented the event under SRPD Case #25-4005.
