The Honolulu Fire Department has paused the search for a missing hiker on the Lulumahu Falls Trail in Nu‘uanu due to safety concerns. The hiker, a man in his 20s, was reported separated from his group while descending from the falls, according to the Honolulu Fire Department.
On last Saturday, at 8:40 p.m., Honolulu Fire Department received a call and sent five units with 13 personnel to the trail. They arrived at 8:50 p.m. and began a ground search. A second unit set up a landing zone for air search. Despite efforts, the missing hiker was not located. Attempts to contact the hiker’s cell phone were unsuccessful. The search was called off at 11:27 p.m. after several hours with no results.
Search efforts for the missing individual will resume at dawn with air and ground teams. The Honolulu Fire Department advises hikers to stay on marked trails, stay in contact with their group, and carry communication tools for emergencies. Updates will be shared as available.
