Seattle firefighters responded to a 2-alarm fire early yesterday morning in a commercial high-rise building in the heart of downtown. According to the Seattle Fire Department, the blaze was reported at 9:09 a.m. in the kitchen of a restaurant situated at the 700 block of Pike St. The incident quickly elevated to a 2-alarm fire as it spread to the building's ventilation system.
The Seattle Fire Department, in a swift response, dispatched over 100 firefighters to tackle the emergency. These responders, arriving from eleven engines, six ladder trucks, and various command and support units, made sure to get water on the fire while controlling the spread of smoke. The smoke, notably, permeated the structure's ventilation system, diffusing throughout the commercial edifice before crews managed to reign it in; no injuries were reported during the event.
Efforts to evacuate smoke from the building involved multiple strategies. Firefighters called upon the Mobile Ventilation Unit (MVU1), which is designed to conduct positive pressure ventilation in expansive structures. Crews from Fire Station 25, who operate MVU1, effectively utilized this large fan-equipped truck to clear the smoke from the building's parking garage, as detailed by the fire department's communication channels.
The aftermath of the incident saw a detailed comb-through of the site as firefighters began overhaul, ensuring that any lingering flames or hazards were addressed.
