A second teenager has been taken into custody for the murder of 16-year-old Zaquavious Dawkins in Gastonia, local police announced. The Gastonia Police Department reported that Sean Curtis, also 16, faces charges of murder following Dawkins's death near the Ganesha Food Mart on January 26, as noted by WSOCTV.
According to details shared by QC News, under new North Carolina legislation, the suspect is being charged as an adult because of the severity of the offense. Initially withheld, Simpson—whose first name was not released—was refused bond during their court appearance.
Family members reported that Dawkins had been shot three times while running errands for his mother. "He cooked, helped with his siblings, was a perfect student," Zaquavious' mother, Tilise Dawkins, recounted in an interview with WCNC Charlotte, expressing her pride in a son who became a strong pillar of support after she lost her leg and toes to diabetes.
Tilise Dawkins also highlighted her son's athletic promise, noting he played football and basketball, on top of being a proud ROTC member. Sean Curtis is presently being held at the Gaston County Jail without bond, as per QC News, following the denial of bond at his court hearing.
