In a focused operation conducted by the San José Police Department's Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC)/Child Exploitation Detail (CED) Task Force, seven individuals were arrested on charges of attempting to collude with minors for sexual activities. The suspects, who range in age from 25 to 52, were caught using various social media applications to initiate conversations they believed were with children under the age of 14, with motives that were anything but innocent. Some of the accused went so far as to offer monetary inducements in exchange for sexual acts.

The investigation took place over several days, between April 1 and April 4, a timeframe in which these suspects are presumably arranged to meet with a minor at specific locales within San José, for the explicit purpose of engaging in illicit acts. Six of the seven apprehended were taken into custody directly at these prearranged spots by ICAC detectives, and assisting units from the SJPD Human Trafficking and Covert Response Units. The seventh, Charles Madkins, was arrested at a later date. According to a news release from the San José Police Department, individuals are now awaiting their fates at the Santa Clara County Main Jail.

The success of this operation lies not only in the hands of San José's dedicated police force but also in the combined efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies. The coalition included the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Santa Clara Police Department, Mountain View Police Department, Marin County District Attorney's Office, and the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.

San José's SVICAC Task Force oversees the Silicon Valley's response to technology-facilitated child sexual exploitation and Internet crimes against children. It processed a staggering 13,451 CyberTips the previous year and carried out over 416 proactive investigations. These efforts have yielded more than just arrests. They've brought rescued children from situations of ongoing abuse and offered a sliver of justice to the affected souls, with their abuse immortalized online. As per their official release, SVICAC's outreach and preventative measures work reached over 16,000 individuals through approximately 1,000 community events in 2024.
