An extra-alarm fire erupted in a high-rise apartment building on North Kenmore Avenue in Edgewater this Thursday afternoon, leaving several people injured and requiring rescue efforts. As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, the blaze, which started in the 5400 block of North Kenmore Avenue, was extinguished by the Chicago Fire Department (CFD) by approximately 1:40 p.m.

Several individuals were taken to hospitals following the incident, and several rescues were carried out. An array of emergency vehicles was present at the scene, with at least a dozen ambulances dispatched to assist the injured and fire trucks lining the streets, as per the Chicago Sun-Times. Neighbors and residents were spotted across from the building, observing the scene and the firefighters at work.
"It took around 75 minutes to strike the fire, which is still under investigation," as noted by ABC 7 Chicago. Officials stated that displaced residents would be allowed to return to their units, which should remain undamaged as long as their doors stayed closed.
