The Sevierville Police Department is teaming up with the Drug Enforcement Administration to help curb a national health crisis. In an effort to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths, they will be hosting a local Drug Take Back event at the Walmart Neighborhood Market on 1185 Dolly Parton Parkway. The event is part of a larger, nationwide initiative and is scheduled for Saturday, April 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., as recently announced on the Sevierville Police Department's social media.

Residents are encouraged to bring their expired, unwanted, or unused prescription medications for safe and anonymous disposal. This service is not only available during the event, but also year-round through the SPD's permanent Drug Take Back receptacle. According to the Sevierville Police Department's Facebook post, the majority of opioid addictions begin with prescriptions pilfered from the unassuming medicine cabinet.

Proper disposal of these drugs is paramount as they pose just as much danger as illicit street drugs when consumed without medical supervision. This initiative aims to remove the source of potential harm from homes where they can be misappropriated by friends or relatives, and instead, reinforce the community's protection against prescription drug abuse, as per the Sevierville Police Department.
