According to a press release from the Kaua‘i Fire Department, a 67-year-old hiker was assisted by first responders after experiencing distress on the frequently traveled trail.

The department received a distress call just after 2:30 p.m., and personnel from the Līhu‘e Fire Station, utilizing their Air 1 helicopter, were quickly dispatched to an area near mile marker 6. Approaching the Hanakoa Shelter, they located the hiker in need. The visitor was then safely transported by air to the Princeville Airport.

After being transported to Princeville Airport, the hiker was transferred to the Hanalei Fire Station for further evaluation and care. The rescue operation concluded shortly before 4:30 p.m. following a coordinated response by the Kaua‘i Fire Department.
