According to the Metropolitan Police Department's initial reports detailed on their website, officers from the First District arrived on the scene to find 74-year-old Kathy Turner unconscious after the collision; despite the swift response from DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services, Turner's injuries proved fatal. MPD's investigation sheds light on how the vehicle struck Turner in the crosswalk, an area supposedly offering safe passage for those on foot, but here it became a place of irreversible consequence.
The driver involved remained at the location of the incident, which is now under scrutiny by Major Crash Detectives as they seek to understand how a routine turn led to such a grave outcome.
