To keep the streets safe and observe local driving habits, the Springfield Township Police Department recently shared data gathered from a speed monitoring sign on Ambre Drive. Over 20 days, the sign captured vehicle speeds and reported some reassuring statistics, according to a post on the Springfield Township Police Department's social media account.
The numbers tell us that out of 7,402 total vehicles recorded, the average traffic amounted to about 370 vehicles per day while the count for those found exceeding the speed limit was relatively low, with a total of 70 speed violators translating to an average of 3.9 violations per day, making up a mere 0.9% of the total traffic — figures suggesting that less than one in a hundred drivers fail to adhere to the speed regulations on Ambre Drive.
Notably, the average vehicle speed was recorded at 21 mph, compared to a posted speed limit of 25 mph. In contrast, the 85th percentile speed — a metric used to gauge the speed at or below which 85% of all vehicles are observed traveling under free-flowing conditions — was reported at 27 mph, as per the department’s announcement.
It is heartening to see that the majority of drivers seem to be operating their vehicles in compliance with local traffic laws, the Springfield Township Police Department's post was clear in their communication "the majority of drivers are keeping their speeds well within or close to the posted limit, which is great to see!" adding that there isn't a significant speeding issue on Ambre Drive based on this set of data, the speed sign will continue its township-wide journey to assist in traffic monitoring and to endorse further driving safety in various neighborhoods.
