On Tuesday last week, the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners approved plans to draft an economic incentive agreement with AdventHealth for the construction of a new freestanding emergency department. The facility is expected to create 56 new healthcare jobs and contribute to economic growth in the area.

According to the St. Johns County release, the project will cost over $18 million for construction, site improvements, and equipment, with the new jobs offering an average annual wage of $68,000. As part of the agreement, AdventHealth will receive an estimated $84,790 annual rebate starting in fiscal year 2027, with a total incentive value of $222,374.

AdventHealth's President and CEO, Denyse Bales-Chubb, emphasized the importance of accessible emergency care for the growing St. Johns County population. The new 12-bed emergency department will be located on State Road 207. This project aims to improve healthcare infrastructure and meet the needs of the county's expanding population.
