During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office recognized the vital role of Public Safety Telecommunicators (PSTs) in connecting emergency calls with law enforcement and emergency services. The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Sheriff's Office's facebook post thanked not only their PSTs but also local businesses and organizations, including Geico and Chick-fil-A, for their support.
PSTs handle emergency calls, prioritize them, and dispatch appropriate help, working with agencies like the SJSO deputies, St. Augustine Police, and St. Augustine Beach Police. Their work ensures timely responses to emergencies, but there is still a challenge in raising awareness about the demands and stress of the job. The Sheriff's Office encouraged people to consider becoming a PST, highlighting the impact of this role on community safety.
Support from local businesses, such as Datamark, Blue Wave Nutrition, the National Parks Service, and Homes for Heroes, emphasized the community's collective recognition of PSTs' importance. The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Sheriff's Office shared a link to their application portal for those interested in joining their team.
