As the breezes sail across the Hawaiian landscape, Honolulu's weather is due to hold onto its temperate nature over the next few days. A report released by the National Weather Service (NWS) outlines a continuation of moderate east-southeast winds, with a tendency for showers to grace leeward areas come afternoon, and waters near the east and southeast facing slopes when night falls. This pattern is predicted to stay its course for a couple of days, although change is on the horizon with winds expected to weaken and shift by the weekend.
According to the NWS's bulletin, a 1011 mb low pressures lies northwest of Kauai, while a dominating 1029 mb high centers itself significantly farther out north-northeast of Honolulu. The tug-of-war between these two systems is, for now, fostering steady winds and a sprinkling of showers across the state. However, wind patterns are set to shift as the week progresses, as the high and low pressure systems re-position, leaving room for land and sea breezes to come into play, Sunday through Tuesday. This adjustment is likely to shuffle the shower patterns, with interior and leeward areas potentially catching more rainfall.
Although the broad weather forecast remains relatively stable, the NWS does point to the potential for unsettled weather early next week. A disturbance aloft could stir up the serenity, with the risk of bringing heavier rainfall across the Hawaiian Islands. Nonetheless, much like the ebb and flow of the ocean, Hawaiʻi's weather is looking to sway back to its familiar rhythm with the trade winds set to return come mid to late next week, marking a return to typical patterns that tend to favor windward and mauka showers.
The current aviation scenarios, as per the NWS, present stable light to moderate southeasterlies, with prevailing VFR (Visual Flight Rules) conditions. While clouds and showers may present MVFR (Marginal Visual Flight Rules) conditions especially around Kauai and Oahu, no AIRMETs (inflight weather advisories) are in effect, indicating a relatively smooth forecasted period for aviators. Mariners are also looking at a consistent weather window, with the NWS reporting "locally fresh southeast winds will persist" through Saturday, and swells providing modest excitement for surfers without crossing advisory thresholds.
