Los Angeles has seen a series of jewelry store robberies at local malls, including one violent incident at the Westfield Fashion Square Mall in Sherman Oaks. According to FOX LA, on Thursday just after noon, four men clad in hoodies shattered display cases and made off with their loot. The four suspects fled in a silver car, last seen speeding towards the 101 Freeway. A 60-year-old man received medical attention after being pepper-sprayed during the ordeal, although it is uncertain whether the assailants or someone from the store deployed the spray. FOX LA reports that the LAPD is actively investigating the crime but have yet to disclose any suspect descriptions.
A separate incident occurred at the Westfield Century City Mall, where a woman was seen on surveillance footage stealing a $20,000 ring while an attendant was distracted by another member of her group, as reported by FOX 11. This theft adds to the string of robberies that LAPD is piecing together, trying to apprehend those responsible for the thefts. They ask anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigations.
Details from another coverage provided by ABC7 indicate the suspects used an unknown object to smash the jewelry counters before snatching the merchandise. In their escape, the robbers made use of a gray or silver Audi A6, which had a yellow cover over the license plates, Officer Drake Madison of the LAPD Media Relations Division said.
