Last Saturday, the streets of Mesquite, Texas, became the grim backdrop to a fatal hit-and-run incident. According to a social media post by the Mesquite Police Department, a pedestrian on a bicycle was struck by a 1998 Chevrolet C10 pickup in the 100 block of US Hwy 80 on the north service road at approximately 5:56 am.
The pedestrian, identified as Wendell Voyles, a 60-year-old Sunnyvale, Texas resident, succumbed to his injuries from the collision. Initially fleeing the scene, 49-year-old Luis Quezada of Sunnyvale, Texas, who had been behind the wheel of the Chevrolet, later returned. Following his return, Quezada was arrested and is facing charges of collision involving death.
This tragic event has since spurred an investigation by the Mesquite Police Department Traffic Unit, as confirmed by their official communique. The statement highlights the ongoing efforts to piece together the circumstances that led to Voyles' untimely demise.
