A robbery incident at a Germantown 7-Eleven has led to the arrest of a suspect, identified as 45-year-old Michael Powers. According to Montgomery County Police Department, the altercation occurred early Tuesday morning, April 8, when Powers reportedly filled a grocery bag with tobacco products and shoved an employee who attempted to intervene.
Montgomery County Police Department responded to the scene after receiving a call around 7:26 a.m. about a suspicious situation at the convenience store located on the 13000 block of Wisteria Drive. The employee involved in the altercation disclosed to the officers, that after the confrontation, Powers also grabbed a small amount of cash from the counter before fleeing. Later that day, Powers was spotted and apprehended by 5th District officers at a nearby bus stop around 4:15 p.m.
Powers has been taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and is being held without bond. He’s facing charges of strong-arm robbery and theft. What started as a simple theft became a felony because of the force used against a store employee. As the case continues, Powers will wait for the next steps in the legal process.
