A violent incident in the Trinidad area of Northeast has resulted in multiple injuries and the arrest of a 34-year-old man. The Metropolitan Police Department reported that six people were injured in a seemingly unprovoked stabbing attack that occurred on Thursday. The suspect, identified as Kevin Steve Andrade of Southeast, is facing charges for six counts of Assault with Intent to Kill, as detailed in a statement released by MPD.
According to the MPD's account, the incident occurred in the 1200 block of Meigs Place, Northeast, around 3:21 p.m. Police officers and emergency services were dispatched and arrived within a minute to find multiple stabbing victims. Victims, including four adult females and two adult males, were transported to local hospitals, and their injuries are said to be non-life threatening, which comes as a relief to the community.
A deeper look into the incident revealed Andrade was with a female acquaintance and under the influence of an unknown substance when he initiated the attack with a knife. This led to a disturbing chain of events where the suspect, after stabbing the female, turned the weapon on himself, made threatening statements before moving on to attack bystanders. Good Samaritans in the area courageously intervened, managing to subdue the aggressor before more individuals could be harmed.
The swift apprehension of Andrade, conducted by the Fifth District Crime Suppression Team, effectively prevented further escalation. Andrade subsequently was taken to an area hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, incurred during his frenzied assault.
