Long Beach authorities are investigating after apparent human remains were discovered on the city's beachfront. As reported by KTLA, the unsettling find occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Friday near the 2100 block of East Ocean Boulevard, where onlookers noticed a section of the beach close to a lifeguard tower marked off with red tape and overseen by police presence.
Further details regarding the nature of the remains and the circumstances surrounding their presence remain unclear, though the Long Beach Police Department's Homicide Detail was promptly dispatched to the scene, whilst a pair of orange traffic cones stood visible within the cordoned-off area. A statement obtained by CBS Los Angeles highlighted how the area is known for its vibrant beach activities and is home to the Long Beach Lifeguards Headquarters, making the discovery all the more jarring amidst the usual seaside bustle.
According to the initial investigation, the scene, which was taped off by homicide detectives and personnel from the LA County Medical Examiner's Office, lies between Junipero and Cherry avenues. These specifics were corroborated by FOX LA, which added that no additional information has been provided by law enforcement at this time.
Officials are yet to publicly address if the unearthed remains are involved in any suspicious activity or whether foul play is at play, waiting for the Medical Examiner’s Office, anticipated to pronounce the exact cause of death at a later date, as found from the scene's footage.
