Alvin Campbell Jr., a man accused of sexually assaulting nine women, is now facing charges for allegedly assaulting a correctional officer at Suffolk County Jail. As reported by the Suffolk District Attorney's office, the incident occurred in November during a recreational period at the facility when Campbell interacted with an officer over a uniform top that was not his.
Currently held while awaiting trial for his prior charges, Campbell, 44, was arraigned last month for the assault that occurred around 8:46 a.m. on November 27. According to the District Attorney's office report, an officer stated that Campbell attacked after being asked to leave the garment alone. Responding with obscenities, he then punched the officer twice, resulting in a bloody lip. Following the altercation, Campbell's bail for this new charge was set at $150, and he's expected back in BMC Central on April 24 for a pre-trial hearing.
In reaction to the incident described, Campbell was quickly subdued by the Sheriff’s Escort and Response Team (SERT) and removed from the situation. Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden emphasized the volatile nature of correctional officers' work, knowing well the unpredictability their daily routine can harbor. "I am thankful the situation here was quickly contained," Hayden remarked, as noted by the District Attorney's office.
