Two male suspects are now in custody following an altercation at a Sam's Club in Texas, wherein one individual allegedly assaulted a deputy. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, began when deputies responded to reports of a possible theft in progress at the retail location at 325 E. Richey Road. Upon arrival, deputies found the suspects engaged in suspicious activity at the self-checkout lanes, where multiple credit cards were being scanned.
When one of the deputies attempted to make contact, Florin Tomscu reportedly resisted and assaulted the deputy by punching him in the face, causing both pain and visible injury. Constable Mark Herman's Office indicated that the deputy was able to safely detain Tomscu at the scene. Engaging in what appears to have been a deliberate effort to flee, the second suspect, Stefan Stan, ran off on foot into nearby woods.
In the ensuing pursuit, a coordinated police perimeter was established, resulting in Stefan Stan's apprehension with the assistance of the canine unit "R.E. Moore," as per the Constable's office. The investigation indicated that the suspects were allegedly using cloned Visa gift cards, loaded with fraudulent EBT information, to purchase merchandise—specifically 103 cases of Red Bull Energy Drinks, totaling $5,739.89.
According to a social media post from the Constable's office, both suspects were subsequently arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail. "Florin Tomscu was charged with Assault on a Peace Officer and received a $5,000.00 bond out of the 482nd District Court. Stefan Stan was charged with Evading Arrest. His bond was set at $100.00 out of County Court 15. Additional charges for Credit Card abuse may be filed at a later time, pending further investigation," stated Constable Mark Herman.
