A SWAT deployment unfolded in the South Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh, instigated by a report of shots fired last night. WPXI detailed how a man, now facing several charges, is accused of firing into a residence around 9:30 p.m. on Bates Street. The woman inside the home, identified as the ex-girlfriend of the assailant, communicated with the police that he had refused to leave the premises upon request.
Pittsburgh authorities later were to find that the suspected gunman, Shawn Brown, was not inside the property as initially believed. As a result of this false lead, a portion of Bates Street was shut down between Second Avenue and Boulevard of the Allies, which Audacy reported was closed for several hours overnight. The standoff concluded without finding Brown at the scene.
The incident thrust Pittsburgh's Public Safety into action, with SWAT proceeding to clear the vicinity around 1:30 a.m. Although no arrests were made at that time, the case was not without development. TribLive provided additional context, revealing that Sean Brown, 28, allegedly shot multiple rounds from a pistol into the side of the house after unsuccessfully trying to enter through a window. Fortunately, the occupants were unharmed and declined medical attention.
A criminal complaint lists a roster of charges against Brown, which include discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, reckless endangerment, possessing an instrument of crime, loitering, criminal mischief, simple assault, and aggravated assault, as per TribLive.
