A woman from Tampa has entered a guilty plea for her involvement in a series of violent hold-ups at local convenience stores. Leanna Bryant, aged 28, faces a serious prison term after confessing to the crimes of robbery and aiding in the brandishing of a firearm during those incidents. According to an announcement by United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe, Bryant could be sentenced to a maximum of 20 years for each robbery and a mandatory minimum of seven years, potentially up to a life sentence for the firearm charges, which are to run consecutively to any other charges.

The crimes in question took place back in August 2023, when Bryant worked in concert with others to execute the thefts. The robberies were distinguished by the prominent display and use of a gun. Traces of the crime led back to Bryant, with her fingerprints found on a vehicle closely linked to the crime scenes. This vehicle had been spotted by license plate readers near the convenience stores around the time the crimes took place, which tied Bryant to both locations.

This Tampa incident has drawn the attention of several law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and multiple local police departments such as Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and Tampa Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Samantha Newman is handling the prosecution. The vigor of this concerted investigative effort underscores the community's intolerance for such brazen acts of violence and the effective collaboration among law enforcement at various levels.

Bryant's case falls under the ambit of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), as stated by the Department of Justice. Established as a program to foster stronger coalitions among law enforcement and communities, PSN is focused on curbing violent crime and gun violence. The results of these measures are evidential in the capture and conviction of perpetrators like Bryant. As part of the Department's crime reduction strategy that was revamped in May 2021, PSN emphasizes building trust in the community, supporting violence prevention, and setting strategic enforcement priorities, all while keeping an evaluative eye on outcomes. A sentencing date for Bryant has yet to be determined.
