A tragic incident has shaken the South Sacramento community after a 16-year-old teenager was arrested for the fatal shooting of his friend, another 16-year-old, during what appears to have been reckless handling of a firearm. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office reported that the shooting occurred last Sunday, at around 3:15 PM in a residence located on the 8000 block of Chriswoods Court. According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post, deputies who responded to the scene found the young female victim suffering from a gunshot wound inside the residence, where she was later pronounced dead despite attempts at first-aid by both the deputies and Fire Department personnel.
Several juveniles who were present at the scene were detained as the authorities sought to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident initial findings from the Sheriff's Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators pointed to a grim scenario where one of the juveniles, who had previous run-ins with the law, brought the gun to the house, and while handling the weapon, shot the victim before fleeing with the firearm; this suspect had a history that included three outstanding felony warrants and prior arrests related to weapons charges and sex crimes in 2023.
After a brief manhunt, detectives from the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau located and arrested the teenage suspect in Stockton yesterday. The suspect, whose identity is withheld due to his juvenile status, was booked at Sacramento County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of murder, according to the Sheriff's Office. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office investigation into the incident is ongoing.
