A 17-year-old has been arrested and charged with the capital murder of another teenager in Cypress. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed that the victim, 17-year-old Giovanni Cruz, was found deceased in a backyard on the 7800 block of Galleon Field Drive, as reported by abc13.
Mark Leyva was arrested this week without incident by the Violet Criminal Apprehension Team and Harris County Precinct 5 deputy constables. He is currently held at the Harris County Jail, facing charges for the shooting, though the motive remains unclear.
According to a neighbor's report cited by Click2Houston, Cruz's body was found in a residential backyard the morning after gunfire calls prompted a response from deputies. Despite the earlier calls, Cruz's body was discovered later that morning.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. The Harris County Sheriff's Office is accepting tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
