A 17-year-old boy has died and two others, a 12-year-old and another 17-year-old, were hospitalized after being pulled into a rip current on Saturday at Lake Worth Beach. According to WFLA News, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office confirmed the incident occurred near the 3000 block of South Ocean Boulevard.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the beach after reports of swimmers in distress. Despite their lifesaving efforts, which included CPR, the 17-year-old was pronounced dead at Bethesda Hospital East. The other two teens, one of whom is 12 years old, were taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in stable condition. This information was also reported by WPBF.
Rip currents are a known hazard along coastlines with breaking waves and can quickly become life-threatening for swimmers. Lake Worth Beach lifeguards and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue officials are urging beachgoers to heed safety guidelines and pay attention to conditions, especially when there is high surf or strong currents.
