A tragic incident unfolded in Bayside, Queens, this past Saturday night, when a teenager was fatally shot by an older man who subsequently took his own life. The New York Police Department reported that the shooting occurred on Oceania St. and 48th Avenue just after 10 p.m. and involved a 17-year-old male victim and a 28-year-old male shooter, according to the New York Post.
Citing police sources, the AM New York indicated that the motive behind the violence appeared to stem from a feud over a woman, with authorities believing the shooter targeted the teenager over a love triangle issue. Following the shooting, responding officers found both men unconscious and unresponsive. Dispatched to the scene were officers from the 111th Precinct, who came upon the tragic aftermath outside of a residence.
Brought swiftly to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, the two were pronounced dead despite intensive efforts to save them. While the names of the deceased have been withheld pending family notification, efforts are ongoing to piece together the circumstances of the event. The New York Post asserts that the younger of the two was shot in the chest, while the older man had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
