An early morning shooting at 5900 Elm Street has left a 17-year-old male dead and another man, age 34, injured. The incident, which occurred shortly after 1 a.m. today, is set to be examined by a Harris County grand jury, based on details provided by the Houston Police Department (HPD).
Officers arrived on the scene to find the younger male unresponsive in the parking lot with gunshot wounds. Paramedics from Houston Fire Department declared the individual deceased. The older male had already been transported to a hospital by private vehicle and is expected to recover. A statement obtained by the City of Houston's official news site indicated that the shooting resulted from an attempted robbery by two suspects on an armed individual, who then returned fire, killing one of the suspects.
The surviving suspect remains at large and has been described as a Hispanic male, aged between 18 to 20, standing somewhere between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall.
