The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission (TFWC) has expanded its team with the addition of four new commissioners, as reported by Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA). These appointees will join the 13-member governing body that oversees the state's wildlife resources and management. Among the newly appointed figures are Hanes Torbett, taking on the responsibilities for District 1, and Rosemary McIlhenny representing District 5, with John McCarty stepping in for District 9. Clinton’s own Steve Jones has been reappointed to serve another term in a statewide capacity.
Bringing a diverse set of skills and experiences to the commission, the members' backgrounds range from financial services to engineering. Commissioner Torbett is noted for his financial work in Tennessee and is an active participant in both the Tennessee sports wagering council and had formerly served on the Tennessee Historical Commission. According to the TWRA release, Torbett is recognized for his efforts in helping families achieve financial security and is an avid sportsman.
Commissioner McIlhenny carries a long lineage of conservation and stewardship from her Louisiana roots. She has been integrally involved with Tennessee's conservation efforts, notably focusing on outreach programs for new female hunters and contributing to organizations committed to wildlife preservation. McIlhenny expressed her anticipation to TWRA, "being a good steward of our natural resources and providing safe access for current and future Tennesseans."
John McCarty comes to the commission with a history steeped in outdoor sports and a professional background in engineering. He founded his own engineering firm, McCarty Granberry Engineering, and has previously managed projects for the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Steve Jones, who returns to a familiar post, has a decorated military background and significant experience in economic development and strategic management, rer the TWRA announcement.
