An unsettling display of destruction unfolded at an East Valley Tesla dealership in Mesa, as 35-year-old Ian Moses stands accused of arson following the ignition of a Cybertruck. According to FOX10 Phoenix, the calamity occurred early Monday morning, prompting responses from the police to reports of an explosion. Firefighters swiftly extinguished the fire, and no injuries were reported. However, the vandal had left the word "thief" crudely spray-painted on the dealership's side.
Mesa police apprehended Moses after observing a man who matched the security footage of the suspect cycling to a van located near the crime scene. Inside the van, authorities located potentially incriminating items, "a black mask, a red gas can, a lighter and a black can of spray paint," and a hand-drawn map indicating the Tesla dealership, as reported by Fox 10 Phoenix. The map bore a simple, yet revealing depiction: a box with a letter ‘T’ inscribed.
Federal charges have been leveled against Moses, with Attorney General Pam Bondi stating, "If you engage in domestic terrorism, this Department of Justice will find you, follow the facts, and prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law. No negotiating," as obtained by FOX10 Phoenix. This stringent action aligns with Bondi's previous remarks cautioning against attacks on Tesla facilities.
At the federal hearing, despite the presence of family members, Moses chose to remain silent, not revealing his motives for the incident. Bernard Zapor, a former ATF Special Agent in Charge, intimated to King 5 that Moses could potentially face grave charges related to terrorism shortly, articulating, "This was done because it represents something to him or others, which is essentially domestic terrorism. So there could be more to this that makes it aggravated."
