Texas Governor Greg Abbott has formally requested a Presidential Disaster Declaration for regions in South Texas impacted by heavy rains and flooding. In his appeal, Abbott sought access to Federal Emergency Management Agency Individual Assistance programs for residents in Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, and Willacy counties. The governor emphasized the extent of the damage, stating, "due to severe flooding and extreme weather in South Texas that caused devastating damage across the region, I requested a Presidential Disaster Declaration," according to the Office of the Texas Governor.
Federal support is being requested to provide financial resources to communities affected by recent disasters. Governor Abbott’s office urges residents to report damages, stating, "Texans are urged to continue to self-report damages to their homes and businesses through the iSTAT damage survey to help state officials determine if additional counties meet the federal assistance requirements." If a Presidential Disaster Declaration is approved, individuals may be eligible for the Individual Assistance Program to cover costs like temporary housing, home repairs, and other disaster-related expenses. Approval would also provide access to additional resources, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant Program and the U.S. Small Business Administration Disaster Loan Program for impacted counties, as reported by the Office of the Texas Governor.

These actions include "local, state, and federal partners conduct joint preliminary damage assessments in affected areas" and "issuing a state disaster declaration for impacted communities."
