Moore, Oklahoma has been struck by severe weather, leading to flooding that tragically claimed the lives of two individuals, including a child. According to KOCO, emergency personnel recovered the bodies following an incident where two vehicles were swept off the road due to the floodwaters in southeast Moore. One of the cars was found on top of the other, near SE 12th Street and S Eastern Avenue.
First responders were able to successfully rescue three individuals, while a woman and a twelve-year-old boy tragically perished in one of the vehicles. In the midst of chaos, the community witnessed a silver lining as the occupants of the vehicle on top—a man and, it's thought to be, his child—managed to make it out safely. However, the details about the age of the child who was rescued were not immediately available.
As the region braces for more severe weather, including the threat of thunderstorms and tornadoes, KRQE reports that the Moore Police Department received multiple calls over the weekend regarding high-water incidents. Among these, last night’s rescue efforts highlighted the danger when a car was swept away under a bridge.
"This was a historical weather event that impacted roads and resulted in dozens of high-water incidents across the city," stated Moore police, recognizing the scale of the disaster. According to WRAL, Moore is a city located approximately 10 miles south of Oklahoma City, housing about 63,000 inhabitants who were affected by this calamitous weather. The community is mourning, even as they quickly attempt to rebuild and prepare for more potential weather threats on the horizon.
