A fatal accident in Channelview last week resulted in the deaths of a mother and her infant daughter after their vehicle entered the San Jacinto River. According to KHOU, the victims were identified as 39-year-old Crystal Hall Njepu and her one-year-old daughter, Annah Njepu.

The incident occurred Friday afternoon last week near Market Street and River Haven. Crystal was driving with her three children when she may have experienced a medical emergency, causing the SUV to leave the roadway. The vehicle briefly stopped, then accelerated through a grassy area and into the river. Click2Houston reports the SUV quickly submerged and was swept under a bridge by the current.

A witness entered the water and broke a window to rescue two children—a 5-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl—who were later reported to be in good condition. Crystal was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. Annah was found in her car seat when the vehicle was recovered and was also pronounced dead.

A GoFundMe page has been created by Crystal's sister to help cover funeral expenses and support the surviving children. The Harris County Sheriff's Office Vehicular Crimes Division is continuing to investigate the crash.
