Chaos erupted inside a DeKalb County grocery store last Saturday, resulting in two innocent bystanders being shot amid a dispute between three individuals. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the shooting occurred just before 11 a.m. at the Ingles supermarket on Rockbridge Road. Two employees were arguing when a third party got involved, and the situation quickly escalated as two of them drew firearms and opened fire in the store.
The gunfire wounded two people who were not connected to the initial argument, leaving them with serious injuries. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the victims, both in their '60s, were taken to a hospital and were alert despite the severity of their injuries. The tension spilled over into the parking lot of Ingles, which was subsequently cordoned off by police tape, while investigators swarmed the scene.
In the aftermath of the chaos, DeKalb County police have made an arrest. Forty-seven-year-old Quincy Mitchell of Atlanta was taken into custody in connection with the incident. Mitchell faces charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by the convicted felon or first offender probationer, as reported by both FOX 5 Atlanta and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
While the identity of the victims has not been released, witness accounts have suggested that they were also employees of the supermarket. Francs Bryce, the fiancé of a woman who works in the store, told FOX 5 Atlanta, "She told me just hurry up and get here, and I just heard a lot of commotion in the background." He elaborated on the horrors witnessed, including the produce manager who was allegedly shot in the chest and a deli worker injured in the hand. However, these details remain unconfirmed by the police as the investigation continues.
