A late-night crash in Allen Park has led to the death of two individuals and left four others critically injured, according to local authorities. The Detroit News reported that police responded to the incident at the intersection of Ecorse and Pelham roads around 11 p.m. on Tuesday. An SUV collided with a sedan, pushing the smaller vehicle into a building and igniting the larger vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the SUV in flames with its three occupants on the ground nearby, having escaped the burning vehicle, according to a Detroit Free Press release. Firefighters later extracted the unconscious SUV driver from the fiery wreckage, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The sedan's 20-year-old driver, an Allen Park woman, was also declared dead at the location of the crash.
Four other individuals were rushed to a local hospital, where they were listed in critical condition, as noted by Audacy. The emergency medical personnel quickly provided assistance to the victims at the scene. The sedan's passenger, who remained conscious throughout the ordeal, was able to communicate with officers following the harrowing event.
The names of the deceased and injured have not been released to the public as the investigation continues, a decision made out of respect for the families involved. Detectives are in the process of obtaining video footage to help piece together the events. The Allen Park Police Department has encouraged anyone with information about the crash to step forward.
