Tragedy struck in South Austin early Sunday morning, leaving two men dead and one woman fighting for her life in the hospital. The bloody scene unfolded when a car, driven at high speed by 22-year-old Laquell Collins, collided with another vehicle after the latter ran a red light at the intersection of West Augusta Boulevard and North Central Avenue, according to ABC 7 Chicago. A third vehicle, a beige minivan, was also involved, but thankfully, its driver emerged unscathed from the chaos.

Police said the 36-year-old man in the eastbound car seemingly chose to overlooked a red light before slamming into Collins' southbound vehicle. Both cars then spun out of control, ending up in the yards of nearby residences, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times. The crash was so severe that both Collins and the other driver, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, were pronounced dead at the scene. A 35-year-old woman, a passenger in the vehicle that ran the red light, was left in critical condition and is currently being treated at Stroger Hospital.

The surviving minivan driver, while physically unscathed, declines to comment on the tragic ordeal, a representative from the Chicago Police Department indicated. Major Accident Investigators from the Chicago Police Department are meticulously working to piece together the details of the tragic event in hopes of understanding the circumstances leading up to the crash, as per the Chicago Sun-Times.
