A tragic multi-vehicle crash in Center Township, Indiana County, has claimed the lives of two people and an unborn child on a Saturday afternoon. The Indiana County Coroner's office confirmed that Daniel L. Ryan, 57, and Nathan S. Blystone, 34, were pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by CBS News Pittsburgh. Ashley N. Layton, 33, who was a passenger in Blystone's car, suffered serious injuries and was subsequently airlifted to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the incident occurred just before 3 p.m. along Warren Road. Ryan's GMC SUV was speeding east when he failed to negotiate a right curve properly, consequently crossing into the opposite lane and initiating the fatal chain of events. The SUV initially struck a Ford Focus, then collided head-on with a Toyota Corolla driven by Blystone. The GMC SUV finally came to rest upside down after striking an embankment.
The collision's force rendered the Ford Focus disabled along the roadway and propelled the Corolla off the road, causing it to overturn multiple times. While the driver of the Focus, Denton L. Shively, 31, was uninjured, both Ryan and Blystone, who were not wearing seat belts, suffered fatal injuries. Police are still investigating the cause of the crash. Layton's condition, as well as updates regarding her unborn child, were outlined in TribLIVE's report on the incident.
