The Metropolitan Police Department has reported the arrests of two young suspects connected to a robbery that took place on the Metropolitan Branch Trail, according to a press release issued yesterday.
The incident occurred two days ago when, at around 3:45 p.m., individuals on bicycles confronted a person walking along the trail near Rhode Island Avenue in Northeast. The suspects allegedly snatched headphones directly from the victim’s head before attempting to quickly flee the scene on their bikes. In their haste to escape, Real Time Crime Center's cameras captured footage of the suspects, which later aided police in tracing them, as per the Metropolitan Police Department.
Patrolling officers in the vicinity of the Metropolitan Branch Trail were able to locate two juveniles matching the descriptions from the video. The suspects, aged 14 and 13, were apprehended and have been charged with Robbery (Snatch). The young suspects are both residents of Northeast D.C., further connecting them to the local community in which the crime occurred.
Details regarding the victim's condition and the value of the stolen property have not been disclosed, but the swift arrests may serve to reassure residents and trail-goers of the police department's vigilance.
