Last Friday, Monroe Community Credit Union was the scene of an attempted ATM tampering that drew the attention of local law enforcement. CBS News Detroit reported that police responded to an alarm around 6:54 a.m. at the credit union's main office at 715 N. Telegraph Road. Arriving on site, officers found two men, a 26-year-old from Tecumseh and a 44-year-old from Toledo, Ohio, parked in a 2024 Honda Accord beside the ATM.

According to the Monroe Police Department, the duo had arrived at the site to deposit fraudulent checks and conduct unauthorized credit card transactions. An attempted forced entry into the machine's compartment set off the alarm, prompting the suspects to vacate the area. Returning later to try their luck at a second drive-up ATM on the campus, they were interrupted by the returning police. This information was shared by the Monroe Public Safety Department, City of Monroe, MI, on their social media page.

The suspects didn't make it far before police, who found the duo in possession of narcotics paraphernalia along with a bundle of fraudulent and stolen checks, checkbooks, and credit cards. Additionally, electronic devices suspected for used in generating fraudulent credit/debit card numbers were also seized. The police asserted that at least twelve individuals had been defrauded by these activities, although there was no indication that members of the Monroe Community Credit Union had their identities compromised by these individuals.

Both men are currently held at the Monroe County Jail, facing a variety of charges linked to the case. The Monroe Police's Detective Bureau is still actively reaching out to all victims involved in the incident. Anyone with further information related to this case has been encouraged by police to contact D/Sgt. Oetjens at 734-243-7516 or Det. McKenzie at 734-243-7517.
